Not much has happened recently on the pregnancy front, so I haven't really had anything to write about, but here's a very short recap:
- I had to go back for the detailed gestational diabetes test. It was not pleasant. I had to fast for 10 hours, which is like 3 years without food in pregnant-time. Then they took blood. Then I had to drink this gross orange liquid, a full (small) bottle in 3 minutes. Very sweet and I can't handle sweet since I got pregnant. Ewwww. But at least I kept it down... Then I had to wait an hour. They took blood. Wait another hour. Took blood again. Now I realize that to those of you who don't mind needles this probably doesn't sound too bad... well... good for you! But this is my story and I hate them!
- Results came back negative. Sweet, I don't have diabetes! Baby just doesn't have a sweet-tooth I guess! Works for me!
- I got to hang out with Cassie and Ryker for most of the day on Monday and it was great! Ryker can take off and eat his socks now! He also eats anything that he can reach or throws them away. I will upload a picture of the boys playing a board game with Ryker! It's adorable!!!
- We finally registered for the November 14th Prenatal class at Royal Alex. Very exciting!!!
- I am waiting for a phone call from the obi-gyno my family doctor referred me to. It's time to set up our first appointment! I have been officially "passed on" to a specialist now!!!
- Baby moves a lot now. It feels very relaxing and nice! It's good to be able to feel the movement, not just watch my belly grow. Knowing that there's a little baby in there makes me smile every time:)
I also realized that I need to start taking more pictures! Or need to start making Doug take more pictures...:) Time flies by so fast! I blinked and I'm already 25 weeks!!!
I guess that's it for now. We are trying to decide on what type of stroller we want/need. I (of course) like the idea of buying the best stroller we can find, but it seems that one is also very inconvenient - for us, anyways. It looks comfortable and solid, great for any terrain... It is pretty heavy, however, and I will need to carry it up and down a lot of stairs with no option of an escalator or elevator at my house. It also seems like this particular model doesn't fold up as nice as some of the less expensive ones, which might mean that we will have to choose between having the stroller with us or doing major grocery shopping. Gwen is spacious (for those who don't know us, Gwen is our car - a bright yellow Mazda Protege 5) but with a baby seat in the back we will not be able to put down all the back seats for extra space and the stroller we've been considering might take up most of the room in there by itself! I'd like to leave room for other stuff, too, we might go on trips and such, after all!
Comments are welcome on our stroller-debate! Let me know what you think! Any suggestions?
I will post more as more stuff happens. Life sort of slowed down a little bit now, for pregnancy related news, anyways. I've been a busy busy bee, but this blog is about the baby and not my social life:)
Strollers. Right. So....ok, the top of the line strollers are like $1,000...just in case you were talking about those. Don't bother!!
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you what we did:
- got a travel system (a stroller that has the ability to have the car seat attach to it so you can transfer baby from car to stroller seamlessly). It comes with teh car seat and a car seat base. ours was about $300. A really good price considering that if you buy teh car seat separately it can be about $150 and the stroller is solid. Boring and not trendy, but solid. Graco brand.
- an umbrella stroller (a lightweight, travel stroller). Ours was Eddie Bauer brand, really good quality, only $80!
Now, all winter long I carried Juliet in a sling. I would put her in teh car seat, then either carry her inside in the car seat, or just transfer her to my sling. At that age when they are sleeping so much (0-4 months-ish), they weigh nothing and they love to be cuddled close to mommy's heartbeat. The sling worked for us. Then once the weather got nicer, we would use the travel system for day trips and the umbrella stroller for taking public transit and travelling (day trips, weekends away, etc.)
Good strollers ARE big. There's no way around it. We had a tiny little Neon (we just got an SUV today woohoo!) and we ended up putting the big stroller in the back seat when we wanted to take it with us. It didn't fit in the trunk. inconvenient, but realistically, during the first few months of their lives they can do OK with the sling for the most part and then when they're older the umbrella stroller is an awesome alternative if you need to get more people into your car.
If I was to do it again, I might get something like this: http://www.orbitbaby.com/products/stroller.html It's literally just a base that you can put any car seat or basinette attachemnt onto. This would fold down into a car easily! Just another option.
No matter what you decide on strollers I guarantee you'llbe out with your baby and see another stroller and call Doug and tell him that your stroller is the worst and you need brand XYZ stroller IMMEDIATELY!!! Then Doug willr emind you that you already spent X dollars on your current stroller and if you want another stroller you'll have to wait until you have another baby. LOL! At least that's what happened to me!
I have many more thoughts on strollers and if you'd liek them I'd be happy to share them but this is getting waaaay long! :)
Happy 25 weeks and yay for no diabetes.
Thanks, Jess!!!:) Awesome breakdown! I have never seen one of those orbit bases before! Very neat! I bookmarked it so I can show it to Doug, too!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have the feeling that no matter what we end up picking, I will be second-guessing myself periodically...:)
I am going stroller shopping (or window shopping, depending on if we end up picking it up that day, or not) with my friend, Cassie, in a couple of weeks. It should be interesting! Her son is 6 months old and she has been obsessing over the topic of strollers since before Ryker was born!:) She already bought her dream stroller, a very cool all-terrain jogging stroller, and she is planning on getting an umbrella one for those times when she needs something compact. The next big project is going to be finding my dream/perfect stroller or stroller combo! To be honest I thought I decided like 3 times already but as you predicted, I keep changing my mind!!!:) Now I'm seriously considering that orbit one you sent me the link for!:)
Thanks again and if I come up with any questions, I will send you a message on facebook for sure!!!
