18 weeks 5 days

Wow, busy busy week…

First of all Doug figured out how to post the baby’s heartbeat, so scroll down and check it out in the 14 week entry!  (What would I do without my in-house computer genius?!?)

I had an interview for a government job (well, actually for a pool) which went great I thought.  I should hear back end of September or sometime in October.  At that point I will find out if I am in the pool from which 9-10 different divisions hire.  So that will take some more time, which, hopefully, will put the actual hiring date into next year, when I will be ready to go back to work!:)  Yay for the government and the amazing speed at which they get things accomplished!

I also got offered a part-time job as a leasing agent for Hillcrest Place, the apartment complex we live in.  It’s not a career move, but it’s perfect for me right now!  I pretty much pick the days I work as long as I can go in for 4 hours every Saturday and on the 1st of each month.  I don’t have to commute, it’s a 30 second walk across the courtyard.  The job is comfy with lots of quiet time behind a desk.   And even when it’s busy, all I have to do is show suites, stick notices on door handles and answer the phone!  A little stair climbing is actually good for me, and if you know this complex, you know that we got TONS of stairs!

I started my job last Tuesday, just a couple days after my last blog entry.  So far, so good!

I also went to the volunteer orientation for the Fringe theatre festival with Craig.  We are volunteering together, doing mobile patrol.  First shift is this Friday morning!  Very exciting!  I’ve never been to this festival before!

We also had a prenatal appointment tonight, just the usual monthly check-up.  Everything seems great, the baby’s heartbeat is strong and all my blood work results came back negative.  I have gained a pound and a bit.

We have made our next appointment for September 8th, after which apparently I will need to go for more blood work for the gestational diabetes test.  The doctor said that after that we will only see him once more when he reviews the test results with us and refers us to an obi-gyno.   Time is flying by so fast!!!  Almost 19 weeks!!!

Our ultrasound appointment is on September 1st, we should have more pictures/videos to post after that.

  1. OK I'm confused -- when do you plan to go back to work??? If you're due in January, when do you expect to hear from the governement about the job pool?! I'm curious to hear about your plans!

Glad to hear all is going well. I'll go check out your 14 week post in a bit :).

Awesome news on both the Fringe volunteering AND the part time job.

Can I make a suggestion? You and Doug need to go on a vacation before the baby's born. Seriously, you won't fully understand until after he or she comes, but the best thing Kevin and I did was go away just the two of us before Juliet was born!! Think you guys could swing it?? :) Hope so!

Keep blogging. I can't wait to see what happens next!

  2. I am hoping to go back to work around May the latest. Unfortunately with the way I got laid off right in the middle of the recession and then got sick and couldn't work for like a month, I don't have enough hours to stay home after May :( Fortunately Doug can still take paternal leave so that's the plan. We figured we'll overlap our leaves, that way we can spend some time together as a family before I really start looking for a job and start working. Doug will probably go on pat leave sometime in April, then we can take most of that month off together and I can spend some of it and early May applying for jobs and going for interviews while he watches the kid... Well, this is the plan, we'll see what actually happens!:) I'm hoping to get into that government job pool and get notified in October and then not actually get selected for a job until let's say March at which point I can ask them if I can start in a month or so. Again, it sounds really far off, but the government really does take it's sweet time, so it's not a very unrealistic hope!:)

I am not sure if we can swing a vacation just for the fact that it's already picking up at Doug's work and once busy season hits he will not be able to take time off (only for emergencies such as going to the hospital with me). He probably wouldn't want to either, considering he works on pure commission and if he doesn't take advantage of the few busy months, he will lose out on a large sum of cash...
Maybe we will just try to have a few days off here and there and enjoy each other's company that way for now... It's not the best option, but until we come up with something better, it'll do:) Thanks for the suggestion, though! I wish we could swing it! (and if by some miracle we will get the chance, we sure will!!!)
